I am back and a new crush and lust list!

Oh my, that was a long hiatus. I started a new job. Left Microsoft to join a gaming company and it has been a fun ride so far! Spent close to 2 months in San Francisco living out of a hotel and soooo good to be back home, and writing!

Anyways, time to talk about my new online-shopping crush! Few months ago, I discovered Mikkat Market on Refinery29 and back then, I found the collection too small for my liking. Recently, I checked on them again and man, I am in love. Katherine personally hand-picks the clothes (and models?) and it shows. No commercial crap but very selected beautiful designs that are both classic, chic and youthful!

Here is my lust-list!

Cutest faux leather shorts in the most beautiful color – http://www.mikkatmarket.com/product/high-waist-faux-leather-shorts-burgundy

How I wish this was available in my size? Classy navy mixed with black leather – I love mixed media! http://www.mikkatmarket.com/product/navy-high-waist-ribbon-skirt

Silk, stripes and style – http://www.mikkatmarket.com/product/silk-asymmetric-stripe-top

Summery and lady-like top – perfect for showing those shoulders! http://www.mikkatmarket.com/product/printed-cut-out-shoulder-blouse

And maxi dress to complete the summer look – http://www.mikkatmarket.com/product/tie-dye-uneven-maxi-dress

Celebrity style crush – Victoria Beckham

I seldom like celebrities-turned-designers but Victoria Beckham just might be an exception. I love that she has a specific and distinctive perspective and it looks fabulous on her. Things that I started especially appreciating because of her:

Neutral colors like heather grey

Pencil skirts, mid-length

Men inspired, shirt dresses (and perfect with nude pumps)

Fuller skirts, styled in not-so-girlie fashion, LOVE!

Structured clothing, especially exaggerated shoulders!

Special mention for coated demin and suede/satin collars – always loved it and she is great at styling it!

Now only if she will go easy on her tan!

Cozy like a cocoon

Hope you had a happy black Friday! I did too and managed to snag a couple of good deals (not necessarily the cheap door-buster type deals) but well, got 20% off on a coat I had been eyeing for a while. It’s a cute cocoon coat!

The thing I like about cocoon coats is – they have a super flattering and slimming shape since they are slimmer at the bottom and hence they look ultra-sophisticated. Whether you go for a slim fit or a loose fit, being a timeless classic, they will not go out of fashion – so it’s worth investing in a really good one.

They have been a rage for a while already now.. check out some runway pictures for styling inspiration!

They seems so versatile – skirts, dress, legging, jeans, pant, anything and everything goes!

Btw, I got mine from Asos – haha

Looking back at Devil Wears Prada

Since the movie was released in 2006, Devil Wears Prada has been my favorite “fashion-movie” way above any of the SATC series/ movies and anything else. Ann Hathway and Meryl Streep look like the epitome of style. And interestingly, a lot of styles are still very relevant and “in”! Here are the few trends that are still “current” and ever-green.

A black and white with red will never ever go out of style!

Chanel necklace and bling is timeless, isn’t it?

A minilmalistic green peacoat looks amazing.

I will get rid of the animal-print though!

How cute is this mititary inspired jacket!

A bit of prep-school style with a mini skirt/dress can be fun and youtful!

Another minimalistic white coat with waist belt. Classic classic!

Fashion startup – Lyst

Haven’t we all heard this before –

  • Get personalized shopping.
  • Let us tell you what’s trending these days.
  • Follow fashionable folks and get their picks.

Like many startups, Lyst does this too but man, it does it *very well*. With carefully picked out look books, designs and bloggers to follow, it’s a fun place to hang out. You can always view all the trending items and sales in one place. But I have to say, in a crowded space with ShopStyle, Polyvore, Lyst isn’t going to be my go-to place for shopping and hanging out. What do you guys think?

Style Stalking – Jessica Biel

It’s super hard to go wrong with anything if you are as beautiful and hot as Jessica Biel. But then the girl’s got style, class and versatility. Her look is always upto date and on the trend. Here are some of my favorite looks peppered with my suggestions. 🙂

High rise pants (especially hot if they are cropped) with a neutral blouse. Beach waves to keep it casual.

Yes, there is no going-overboard-with-studs. Feminine sparkly top with the hard biker jacket and leather pants. For mortals like us, I would tone it down a bit.

A simple jersey maxi dress is universally flattering and a great style for traveling.

A mid-length dress with feather peplum to create a hourglass bombshell look. Can ever go wrong with neutrals and pop of colors with the shoes.

Elbow length blouses are back in fashion and so are ankle length jeans. Tuck them in, add a belt and heels for a polished look.

My latest photshoot!

I am soooo shy that I have never posted a picture of myself on this blog. There is always a first and this is it for me. I recently did a photo-shoot with a couple of very talented friends. I always wanted to do a theme with weakness-finds-strength story and the whole soft-meets-hard and frail-becomes-forte. There are some other pictures that bring the point across better and the one below was just a fun experimental one. But I love it! And it is also one of my most favorite outfit… combined with moto-boots.

Graphic t-shirt – All saints, old [similar], skinny in burgundy also from All Saints, old [similar]. Accessories – not much. Just a fake stitch mark (hand drawn). Lol.
